Five Home Remedies To Help You Get Rid Of Insomnia
A good night’s sleep is essential for our bodies. However, thanks to the extreme stress and workaholicism of the present generation, short-term insomnia is not too uncommon these days. Having trouble falling asleep or staying asleep is usually known as short-term insomnia. Sleeping pills can help but be aware that ingesting these pills at a young age can have negative effects on your body, and if you make it a habit, your body will become dependent on them to help induce sleep.
Thankfully, there are several other ways that can help you take control over your sleep pattern and help you live a better life overall. There are a number of home remedies, and they seem to work very well in most cases. So read on to find out how you can get your fill of zzz’s every night.
Chanting a mantra again and again in any language you want can often help you relax your nerves and get sleep. You can find a mantra in English or Sanskrit from the internet or create your own. In 2015, study researchers found out that homeless women who chanted a mantra every day and especially before sleeping found it easier to fall asleep after a week. Whether you chant it aloud or do it in your mind, focus on the words and try to keep away all other thoughts. If light music helps you concentrate better, listen to it as you chant. It works for most people but if it is causing you any agitation, you must try other ways.
Mindfulness meditation can be extremely beneficial for a number of reasons, and curing insomnia is just one of them. In mindful meditation, you need to concentrate on your body, your feelings, and your sensations. All you need is 15 minutes – in the morning and in the evening. This will help you focus better at work and make you more aware of your feelings or emotions. Meditation is known to improve sleep quality when practiced along with healthy eating and lifestyle. If you find it difficult to do it all by yourself, joining a meditation group is highly recommended.
Lavender oil has been associated with sleep for a long time. Adding it to your bath routine, spraying it on your pillow before hitting the sack, or having them in the form of capsules daily helps get rid of insomnia and allows you to have restful sleep at night. Having lavender tea or capsules with 20-80 mg of lavender or as directed by your doctor can work really well. There are a few side effects like headache, constipation, and nausea when you take lavender orally. If it is the case, using them during bath time or spraying them works well, too. Lavender is known to work as an anti-depressant and reduces pain, too.
Getting a massage is an incredible way to relax our body. There are pressure points throughout the body that works well when activated. Massages can do that and help get rid of insomnia, anxiety, stress, and depression. If you can train your mind to concentrate on the feelings and sensations you are getting while having a massage, it will do you a lot of good. It might not be possible to go to a masseuse often so it is best to learn some simple techniques to give yourself a msssage. Your partner or friend can do it for you, too. You can even opt to use scented body oils to induce relaxation and help you with your insomnia.
Exercise Or Yoga
As we all know, working out has numerous benefits for the body. It not only helps you maintain a healthy weight but also keeps you happy and gives you a good night of sleep. So if you are not catching your zzz’s regularly, make sure you have at least 150 minutes of workout every week, which means only 30 minutes for 5 days a week. It can be a brisk walk or a jog around your neighborhood, an intense gym workout, or even yoga. It will improve your sleep quality and help you overcome any difficulties you might be facing while sleeping.
A good eight hours of sleep is part of a healthy lifestyle. If you are not getting sleep for months, you must see your doctor and get help. Sometimes, doctors suggest taking melatonin and this can help, too. If you want to spare yourself from a visit to the clinic, you can try out any of the aforementioned tips!
