Bergamot Essential Oil Can Be Used for Several Forms Of Treatment You Didn’t Know About!
Bergamot essential oil is a miracle oil with so many benefits, and yet, it is underrated. While the cosmetic industry uses it extensively in many items — from perfumes to candles and everything in between — it remains one of the essential oils less talked about. However, we’re here to tell you how wonderful this citrus essential oil really is and why it deserves a spot in your drawer!
Stress Relief
Just a whiff of the citrusy aromatic bergamot essence can pep up your mood and put a bounce back into your step! Bergamot has been known to relax anxiety and stress and lighten the heaviest of hearts! The fragrance is touted for its ability to uplift spirits and for instilling confidence. When bergamot is paired with rosemary, it is especially mood-enhancing. This combination may be added to carrier oils to make an effective inhaler. Vapor inhalation of bergamot oil has been shown to increase the activity of the PNS, acting as relaxation treatment, even lowering blood pressure and slowing the heart rate.
Digestive Health
A rather surprising benefit of bergamot oil is the effect it has on the gut and digestive health. Bergamot has shown positive effects on digestive health by calming the gut and treating indigestion. Peels of the bergamot fruit, as well as the whole fruit, happened to be an indispensable part of traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of an upset stomach. There is some research that suggests that other than stimulating digestion, bergamot also fights food poisoning. To use, mix 1 to 3 drops of bergamot essential oil in a carrier oil and rub onto the stomach in a clockwise direction.
An Effective Vermifuge
Bergamot essential oil is an effective treatment against intestinal worms as it has been used to kill worms, especially in children. Should kids present symptoms of a distended abdomen, have a sallow appearance, or experience frequent stomach cramps, they could have intestinal worms. These worms cause anything from malnourishment to stomach infection. All it takes to treat this is rubbing a few drops of bergamot oil on the abdomen.
An Effective Analgesic
Research has shown that bergamot oil proves to be a great treatment for muscle aches, headaches, and even sprains. It was discovered that there are bioactive compounds found in bergamot, as well as in rosewood and in lavender, that offer anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant and analgesic effects. This compound is linalool, and it is understood that the linalool is able to block pain receptors and thus inhibit the release of compounds involved in pain transmission in the body, and other nerve impulse transmissions. Rubbing 2 or 3 drops of bergamot on the affected area provides effective treatment. To cover larger areas, it is advisable to combine the essential oil in a carrier oil.
Fever Reduction
Bergamot essential oil is touted for its ability to improve blood circulation. This is especially important when it comes to the treatment of fever since the stimulating effect on blood circulation and on endocrine hormone production leads to sweating. It is common knowledge that when you sweat, your temperature drops. In addition, the anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effect of bergamot oil can further aid in the treatment of the agents or bacteria that caused the fever in the first place. If that isn’t amazing enough, bergamot oil also eliminates accumulated toxins through sweat. You can benefit from fever treatment by applying a drop or two of bergamot oil on the forehead, chest, back, and neck or even by inhaling vapors with bergamot essential oil.
Reduced LDL Cholesterol
Bergamot essential oil works effectively as a cholesterol-lowering statin. It also works to increase HDL in the bloodstream, which works to flush out the LDL from the arteries and into the liver, which eliminates it from the body. This means that the use of bergamot essential oil can reduce the risks of developing cardiac diseases by a significant amount.
Bergamot oil has long been a powerful treatment of many diseases, right back to ancient Egyptian ties. It is a sweet, spicy and deliciously citrusy fragrance that can even simply make you more confident by simply getting a waft of it! Give bergamot a go – you will be pleasantly surprised!
