Five Benefits of Taking a Small Break From Social Media From Time to Time!
Social media cleanse is creating quite a buzz-worthy phrase these days. While shows like The Social Dilemma play accelerators to this spirit, we are sure numerous other reasons would be responsible for people to quit social media. For instance, most celebrities have been encouraging this trend recently. Like Ed Sheeran, Demi Lovato, Justin Beiber have all been doing it lately, and what’s more, all of them have recorded incredible benefits. It might seem difficult to stop using social media when your day begins and ends scrolling through your Instagram feed.
When you are having a bad day, looking at others’ polished images may make you feel inadequate and sad. You may suffer from feelings of self-esteem, anxiety, and depression. So, how do you do a social media cleanse, delete all the apps you have on your phone, or abstain from it? Well, you can refrain from looking into your social media accounts for some time, say a week, or fifteen days and gradually get back to it again, well in a more controlled way, when you are in a better space of mind. So, how does a social media cleanse help? Find it right here!
Improves Sleep Quality
How many times have you heard, that you need to stop staring at your phones and gadgets an hour before hitting the sack? But how often do we follow it? Artificial light can affect the melatonin (a sleep hormone) levels in the body and affect how you sleep.
Remember, you are not doing yourself any favor by looking groggy-eyed at your Facebook and Instagram feeds at night. So, when you are away from your phone, you get closer to sleep. And, it can help you sleep better and feel better.
While social media can help you stay in touch with your close friends and family, excessive use may impact your personal interaction and relationships. While DMs are the new norm, you can take a break from it and try writing a letter to give it a personal touch instead. That way, instead of staying behind the cultivated persona on social media, you can flaunt your actual self. And that way, you will realize you are getting creative in the way you express yourself.
Excessive social media and technology can lead to lowered self-esteem, anxiety, loneliness, and depression. However, we do not mean to say that staying active on social media could cause these feelings.
Instead, we are trying to say that if you are continually responding to texts, emails, or messages, you may experience a lot of stress. It would help if you occasionally turn off the devices and set up automatic replies instead of letting people know that you are on a break.
That way, you will not miss out on important communication and still have an idea of what’s going on!
Gives You More Free Time
Being available and online on social media might seem exciting. Staying up to date with the lives of your friends and celebrities is interesting, but is it worth it? Constantly checking Instagram may seem like a priority till you stop doing it. Yes, until you stop doing it, you may never know that you may not need to do it at all.
Remember, it isn’t a priority, and your life does not depend on it. And when you stop spending all your waking hours on social media, you find a lot of time on hand to attend to other important things in life! You could use this time to pursue a hobby or do something constructive. While browsing your feed a few times a day is completely okay, it can disrupt your normal life. And that’s when you need to put a hard stop and reevaluate your life choices.
Plan tech-free Sundays and spend time with your family. They would also want to look at your face, too, instead of looking at your phone. Plan a hike, do painting, workout. There are so many things you can try that can have a genuinely positive effect on your life. If you haven’t tried a social media cleanse yet, try it and let us know how it made a difference to your life. And do not forget to share it with your friends and family. We are sure a bit of social detox is something we would all love!
