Can A Hobby Break A Well-Sustained Marriage?

Relationships are not built overnight. To start off, you have got to spend a fair bit of your time and energy to find your significant other. Once you do find your life partner, the next challenge is to sustain a great mutual understanding after marriage. In the end, you will find that you have spent your life with sensibility and have developed a large family. This is how relationships are developed.
Throughout your life, you get committed to your partner by giving them the respect and security that they deserve. By saying “Yes, I do” at the marriage altar, you and your significant other sign a contract, vowing to stay loyal to each other for the rest of your lives. Thus, marriage is more of a social contract that you sign with your partner.

In other words, this means that both of you will remain on the same page in every facet of life. You will go through the hardships of life together. Likewise, you will enjoy the blessing of life together. And, of course, you can not make any decision without consulting your life partner.
However, one of the skirmishes that established couples go through is when they opt for a new hobby. For example, let’s say that the husband wants to develop a hobby – say cycling. And the wife does not agree with her life partner. You are not supposed to do it, the wife argues. Notice that the wife does not have any rational reason to not allow her partner to opt for this hobby.

All she has to say is that they have been together for forty years, and neither of them ever thought of this new hobby. Now, she does not want to join her husband in this new hobby. Most importantly, she does not want him to pursue this new hobby either.
A Mere Hobby Should Not Break A Well-Sustained Marriage?
What do you think this old couple needs to do at this point? Should the wife continue arguing with his husband – who is in his 60s and wants to pursue a new hobby? Or, should they come to a mutual understanding?

Well, whatever the case may be, the marriage should not break. That is beyond any argument. This old loyal couple has been everything in life. From the Great Depression of 2008 to the COVID-19 pandemic, this couple has seen it all. And a mere hobby should not be a hindrance in their marriage.
Now, this couple needs to sit back, take a deep breath, and resolve the issue with a mutual understanding. They should find a middle way to clear things up before things get out of hand. Thus, they should not allow a ‘mere hobby’ to be the deal breaker.
