Parents vs. Teens: How To Have A Better Relationship With Your Teenager
Most people say that once you have raised a teenager and they turned out to be good and successful people, you can basically conquer anything. That is because raising a teenager is considered to be one of the most difficult jobs in the world.
Sadly, there is no way that you could quit because their lives are at stake because they need your guidance but at the same time, they also need your full attention and respect. Most parents believe that it is just impossible to raise a teen, it is actually not, what they think is impossible is to raise a perfect teen, which is true. In almost every household, there wouldn’t be a time where a parent and a teen will get into a misunderstanding, especially with teenagers of this generation. That is why in this article, will totally help you have a better relationship with your teen.
PARENT VS TEEN – Respect
One of the most common mistake parents make is that they believe that should always be respected, which is true, however, there are times that they forget that they should also respect their children as individuals. Just because you’re the parent and the mature one in the house doesn’t mean you’re the only one who deserves some respect. It is a total must for you to respect their own space, respect their own decisions, respect their own ways of doing things.
All you need to do is to guide them through it, if they make the wrong decisions, instead of getting mad, make them learn from their mistakes. This would help them make wiser decisions and they would also feel that you respect them as an individual because you are not dictating their life but instead you are just there to support and guide them, which is exactly how it’s supposed to be.

PARENT VS TEEN – Expectations
Expectations are very common in every household, there are some parents who always want their children to excel in certain ways and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. However, as a parent, it is important for you to understand your limitations when it comes to expectations. Some teenagers feel so much pressure because of their parents’ expectations, that it is already starting to get to them and affecting them emotionally, mentally, and physically. This is something only the parents could fix because it is like forcing your teens to do better without actually helping and reassuring them that it is okay to make mistakes and that they don’t have to be scared of disappointments.
PARENT VS TEEN – Privacy
This has got to be the biggest reason why parents always fight with their teenage children. Adolescence is a stage where people are starting to know who they really are, what they like to do, what they’re good and bad qualities are, and more. Parents, however, sometimes treat their teens as if they’re still children, that they could do anything because they’re the parents.
It is very important for you as a parent to understand the importance of guiding your teens when it comes to privacy. It is best to be a great example to them instead of always trying to invade their private lives such as getting into their stuff, snooping on their mobile phones, and more. Learn to trust them, but come to an agreement that if ever they break that trust, their privilege of privacy will be at stake.
PARENT VS TEEN – Communication
Finally, the most important one of all is that parents and their teenage children must build a good communication system. It is important that you start as early as you can. Start simple such as asking them how was their day at school, do they need help with anything, and more. Have a chat with them as much as you can, you must make them feel that you are their most trusted friend that would never betray them. Having a good relationship with your teen always start with how you communicate, keep your mind open and you will be in good terms with your teen.
People have their own ways of raising their children, there may be tons of different ways to do it, but none of them will always be perfect. Keep in mind that parents should always be the one to have a wider perspective because they are more mature and that the struggles of raising a teenager are part of being a parent and that is something you don’t simply give up on.
