The Most Popular Skin Treatments Available in the Market

Though aging is a natural process, experts have found out that various kinds of treatment backed by science will help your skin stay healthy and young for a long time. Fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, acne, and sagging skin are some of the problems that are addressed by these treatments. They are not as critical as surgeries but can be quite effective if done right. Additionally, these treatments also do not need much recovery time. However, some of them come with a big price tag, so make sure that you have enough money in your bank account before availing any of these. These treatments are sought after by both celebs and common folk these days, and judging by their popularity, we have listed a few here:

Botox

Botox is made from the botulism-causing bacterium. Small amounts of Botox is injected using a thin needle. It is usually enough to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, spots, and scars. What botox does is paralyze the muscles and nerves, when they can’t move, the wrinkles do not appear. Depending on how intense your wrinkles are, doctors will suggest the number of sessions you might need.  It is usually an easy method where the application takes only 15 minutes, no anesthesia is required, and neither would you need recovery time, yet the results last for months.

Chemical Peel

The results of a deep chemical peel can last up to 10 years. However, recovery takes quite a bit of time for this one. A chemical peel can treat fine lines, acne, wrinkles, and even old scars. Depending on the severity of your skin problems, the expert might suggest whether you should be going for a medium or deep peel. Trichloroacetic acid is used for medium peel while phenol is used for deep peels.

Laser Skin Treatment

Laser skin resurfacing uses laser beams to remove the outer layer of the skin, where fine lines, scars and other issues are mostly located. The removal of the outer layer and the treatment of the inner layers helps in rejuvenating the skin, making it look younger, softer, and more flawless. Generally, it is of two types — ablative and non-ablative. The non-ablative type has fewer side effects and works well if the issues are minor. Though the results last for many years, the immediate side effects include redness of the skin.

Dermabrasion

Only trained plastic surgeons can do the process of dermabrasion. This is usually done in a clinic. Just like laser treatment, this procedure involves “scraping” the upper layer of the skin through minor surgery. Deep scars, wounds, acne marks, and deep wrinkles can be eliminated using this method. After the skin is scraped, the skin grows back after a while, and it is usually smoother and younger looking. Redness, a burning sensation, and pain are some of the side effects. But we guess thinking about the impressive end result, nobody gets too worked up about the side effects.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a much gentler process of dermabrasion. Here the doctor uses a handheld device to scrap the outer layer of skin. It doesn’t require recovery time and usually, there is only minimal redness. In case you do not want to go for a surgical process like dermabrasion, microdermabrasion is a good option. This is a minimally invasive method where the new skin grows back to be smoother and softer. However, it should be done frequently over a period of time in order to see results.

Dermal Fillers

Filler injections help in restoring the skin and make it look younger. It fills in the skin to remove visible wrinkles and spots. Not everybody needs the same amount of filler, and some might need more injections than others. The fillers are usually approved by the authorities and the ones that are used are hyaluronic acid, Restylane, calcium hydroxylapatite, and synthetic polylactic acid. Since the liquids used are absorbed by the body, it doesn’t last for long.

Laser Hair Removal

Those with lighter skin tone and darker hair on their body get good results from laser hair removal. This can be done on any part of the body. Usually, the laser rays destroy the hair follicles. After about 8 sessions, the hair is completely removed. This means you won’t have to go to the waxing salon every week!

Whatever treatment you opt for, only do so after inquiring from a good skin specialist. They will be able to guide you properly and suggest the best treatment you can get based on your skin concerns.
